How to write a good SEO plan or proposal ?

It is a customary to add the following main points in any formal SEO proposal :

  • SEO objectives

This means whether you are concerned about just TRAFFIC or VISITOR CONVERSION & LOYALTY

  • Site Analysis

This is meant to assess what is needed to best optimize it for the search engines and visitors alike, this may include (but is not limited to ) design, layout, navigation, colors, background, fonts, images,
broken links, title/meta tags etc., html validation, browser and resolution compatibility, loading times, search engine rankings, site statistics etc.

  • Keyword Research

Much has been said on this topic everywhere.

  • Competitive Analysis

Obviously, this includes the analysis of your competitors

  • SEO Copywriting

This includes modifying your site headings,HTML text, layout, design and even images where needed to make the site appropriate for search engine rankings but doing so we should not forget that it is the humans for whom this site is meant for not the search engines alone !

  • Creation of Meta Information

Based on keyword research and competitive analysis the title, meta tags and headings have to be changed accordingly.

  • Site Map Creation

This is to facilitate the search engine spiders/crawlers so that the site indexing is proper and efficient.

  • Link Popularity Building

This step involves getting links for your web site with optimized anchor text.

  • Search Engine and Directory Submissions

This is an important steps in link building process.

  • Target Audience Review

This helps decide how technical the content can be and the color schemes etc.

  • Localization

This is among one of the most important SEO steps and often forgotten, optimizing web sites for your local audiences e.g. if you are service provider in Canada then it is obvious that anyone willing to have that specific services will prefer a Canadian company ,if it suites his needs, than an off the continent company with whom a constant communication gap will occur and it will be hard for him to access their reputation. Believe it or not people prefer their nearest services providers and they do search for them so why not it is you who they choose.

Bottom line: Must optimize for local business.

This includes :

  • Local Yellow Pages
  • Local City Guides
  • Contact Information

Mention your contact information clearly so that customer can reach you easily, adding road map is a good idea too !

  • Web Site Load Time and HTML Validation
  • Compatibility and Resolution Checking

These steps assure that search engine spiders will not face any difficulty browsing your site and also the visitors will have a good site experience
